WHAT IS CONCEPT101?

Concept101 is a not-for-profit organisation that runs conference events and monthly drawing meet-ups for concept artists. We aim to bring together the concept art community through educational and networking events, talks, portfolio reviews, art competitions, charity streams and other opportunities.

​

Tickets to the Concept101 events are, and have always been, free for attendees. We appreciate many wonderful artists who volunteered to help out at the events or gave up their time to give talks and portfolio reviews. Concept101 wouldn’t exist without the support of the concept art community and our sponsors.

WHY IS THE EVENT FREE?

As concept artists ourselves we strongly believe in the benefits of going to professional events and conferences, meeting other artists and sharing ideas and inspiration. It is true that along with travelling and other costs attending such events may sometimes hurt your wallet. We aim to make the Concept101 events accessible to everyone regardless of their current financial situation, and this is why we’ve removed the barrier of a ticket price for good.

DO I NEED TO BOOK A TICKET?

​

The only unticketed events that we organize are monthly drawing meet-ups (Drink & Draw meet-ups in pubs and sketching meet-ups in museums). For the rest of the events you would need to book a ticket to attend.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TICKETED EVENTS AND MEET-UPS?

​

Ticketed events are professional gatherings that feature talks, networking opportunities and sometimes portfolio reviews depending on the venue capacity. These events are organised on weekday evenings or weekend afternoons. Each event has an average of 100 guests. Ticketed events are hosted at various venues as we rely on the support of our sponsors and partners.

Meet-ups are smaller social gatherings where you get to draw and chat with fellow artists. Drink & Draw meet-ups take place in pubs - we book a room or tables and come to chat and have a drink together. Museum meet-ups take place in London museums, and only in those that are free for public. We usually spend 3 hours sketching from the variety of exhibitions and sometimes finish the meet-up in a pub nearby.

WHAT IF I HAVE A TICKET BUT CANNOT ATTEND?

Let’s give a chance to another fellow! Please email us at concept101conference@gmail.com if you can’t attend so that we could release one ticket to the next person on the waiting list.

I CAN'T BOOK ANY TICKETS?

​

If you can’t book a ticket then the event is sold out! Fortunately, we now host multiple events throughout the year, so we hope to see you at one of them! You can also join the waiting list - we will be releasing more tickets if somebody can’t attend.

WHO ARE THE SPEAKERS AT CONCEPT101 EVENTS?

​

Each event features at least two talks given by professional concept artists working in the film and video game industry. We are immensely grateful to all of our speakers for giving talks and reviewing portfolios at our events. They are the best artists in the industry and absolute legends.

HOW CAN I GET A PORTFOLIO REVIEW?

​

When the venue capacity allows for a portfolio review area we include that into the event’s schedule. If an event features portfolio reviews it means they will be bookable during the event (usually before the first talk). Check the event details to see if there are reviews planned and bring your device to show your work!

WANT TO BE A HELPER AT CONCEPT101 ?

​

Being a helper at Concept101 includes checking attendees in, helping out at Q&A after talks and various other tasks. Sometimes it’s physical work like moving chairs and setting up a reviews area. If you would like to help us at one or multiple events please email us at:

Please note that helping at an event means you coming earlier and leaving later, which is partly the reason why we will only have helpers that are based in London.

WHO ARE THE ORGANIZERS OF CONCEPT101?

Concept101 was founded by Jules Darriulat, Daniel McGarry and Stefan Valasek who are concept artists working for Framestore, freelance and Maverick Games respectively.

Jules, Daniel and Stefan have launched the Concept101 annual conference, monthly meet-ups, a podcast and many other initiatives for the community because they wanted to help provide opportunities to concept artists that had been taken away due to the pandemic.

Today the event is organised by Ksenia Nazarova, Stefan Valasek and Jules Darriulat.
